Breaking News From The Friends of Ragged Mountain, Camden

This just came in from Dorie Klein.  Until we get the Public Forum set up, I’ll be posting items like this to the Blog, to ensure that they get seen quickly.  DC

Dear Friends,

our core group is growing and that is a very good thing, since there is so much to be done.

Next Tues. Oct. 12 is VERY IMPORTANT, because Rockport will decide that evening IF and HOW they might join Camden’s 3-Town Wind Workgroup. I learned tonight by attending Camden’s Energy Committee meeting that Robert Peabody, Rockport’s Town manager, invited the Energy Committee to make a presentation on the 12th in Rockport.

Wes Fitzgerald will attend with one or more Energy members, as yet unnamed. We do not know who else they may have speaking on their behalf, or how many.

So, Oct. 12 at 7PM (or later) in the Rockport Opera House will be the decisive moment. I do not know at what point this topic appears on the Agenda, so come prepared to stay a while.

It is ESSENTIAL that as many Rockport Friends attend as possible. If someone cannot attend, they can write a letter to the Rockport Select Board or Town Manager to read during the meeting.

Rockport may go in two (or more) directions. IF they decide NOT to join Camden, they can focus on drafting their own Wind Ordinance that will go to their own town vote next June.

Hope may reach the same conclusion that evening at their Select Board meeting at 6:30 PM.

IF Rockport decides to join the 3 Town Wind Workgroup, it must be encouraged to be with the understanding that regardless of what the Energy Committee recommended for tasks, that the new group itself would choose 2 tasks only and they would be to assist the 3 Towns (assuming Hope has agreed to join with Rockport) in drafting Ordinances designed to protect the health, safety and welfare of their residents and to educate the public on the issues regarding wind turbine development atop Ragged Mountain.

So dear Rockport Friends, we will rise to the occasion to help increase the numbers of Rockport supporters, but we need you to gather your friends and neighbors, too. This is the time to make the time and effort if you care. There may not be a second chance.

I will make a brief Friends update to the Camden Select Board tomorrow night, Oct. 5 right at 7PM, since we are not on the Agenda.

Best,
