Follow these links to find out why Wind doesn’t reduce CO2 emissions or our use of fossil fuels.
Link to pieces by Kent Hawkins showing that Wind Power does not reduce CO2 emissions, or shut down conventional fossil fuel plants. Fully referenced, with good notations and links for further study.
A well documented paper from Australia.
A great study, using real world data, showing that Wind Power does not reduce co2 emissions, or the use of fossil fuel.
The Electricity Reliability Council Of Texas says: “Using 2006 data, ERCOT has determined that 8.7% of the installed wind capability can be counted as dependable capacity during the peak demand period for the next year. Conventional generation must be available to provide the remaining capacity needed to meet forecast load and reserve requirements.”
A large document, but the report shows that in 2009, they were still only counting on an 8.7% capacity factor for Texas wind.
Exactly how much of our electricity is produced by burning oil? According to the Nuclear Energy Institute, it isn’t much. Lots of great charts and info here.
