Welcome to Real Wind Info For Me, a service of Fletcher Mountain Outfitters, and me, David P. Corrigan, Registered Maine Master Guide.
I intend for this site to be a place where regular people can find real information about Grid Scale Industrial Wind Power Development in general, and Industrial Wind in Maine, in particular, without the deception, half truths and outright lies that are generally offered by developers, politicians, and even the media. You will find links here to their sites/information, but you will also find links to groups who have good reason to oppose Big Wind, as well as to independent research; research that often shows the Industry to be less than honest.
I want this to be the place where anyone can come when they need real, solid, information about Industrial Wind. The main feature of this site will be many links to groups and information. I don’t want you to take my word about Big Wind, I want you to follow the links and do the research for yourself. I have yet to meet any reasonably intelligent person who did the research for themselves, and then came out in favor of Industrial Wind Development, unless, of course, they had already been bought off by the industry.
There was a time when I was a supporter, in a general way, of Wind Power. After all, who doesn’t want to support something that promises “free,” “clean,” “renewable,” energy, and lots of jobs, tax benefits, and lower electricity bills to boot? But then I started doing the research, and what I found angered, and quite honestly, frightened me.
Far from being the savior of the modern world, I found that Industrial Wind is, frankly, a scam. I found that it does not reduce green house gasses, does not reduce our use of fossil fuels, does not bring jobs, tax breaks, or lower electricity bills. What it does bring is massive profits for developers, in the form of taxpayer subsidies [our money], while destroying habitat, driving up our electric bills, driving down our property values, killing off large numbers of birds and bats, and displacing many other animals. This is in addition to the water and soil issues, political corruption, health and safety concerns and numerous other problems that seem to follow in the wake of Industrial Wind, wherever it shows up. And, don’t forget, WE THE PEOPLE foot the bill!
As a full time Guide, the blow that Industrial Wind is delivering to Maine’s Tourism economy is particularly frightening for me. I have one project [The Highland Wind Project] nearly set to go in, less than two miles from my home/Lodge, and several others in the planning stages, some of them even closer to my property. My clients have already told me that “if the Turbines go up, we’re not coming back.” These projects have the potential to drive not only me, but many others in the tourism industry right out of business, and right out of our homes.
And so, I have become personally involved in the fight to educate the public, and our lawmakers/regulators about this scam that is Industrial Wind. I sincerely hope that you will use this web site as a resource. Follow the links. Do the research. Contact the groups that are fighting Big Wind all over the state, the country, and the world. And then, when you have convinced yourself that what is happening is wrong, GET INVOLVED!
Write letters, contact lawmakers, attend public hearings, and support those fighting to save our wild places, our economy, and our homes. If you are able, please consider donating, either to this site, or to one of the groups that is working so hard. It’s all done with volunteer labor folks, and we are fighting multi billion dollar/multi national corporations, and their politician friends. We can show the world the truth, and we can save our mountains, homes, and economy, but we can’t do it alone. We need your help!
Along with all the links to information/groups that you will find here at realwindinfoforme.com, you will also find merchandise for sale [every dime goes right back to spreading the truth], as well as a blog, and a public forum. Please buy what/when you can, and please check the blog and forum for regular updates, news items, and opinion pieces. And if you don’t find the information that you are looking for, if you would like to know how to help, or if you have links to other information that you would like to see listed here, please don’t hesitate to contact me, anytime.
Thanks for visiting, and please come back often.
